Divi Updates - Episode #5 Summary

July 15, 2024

Positive Results, Paid Marketing & Regulations

Spot ETH ETFs (watch)

After some fun with the avatars, this episode starts with the approval of the spot ETH ETFs. After Bitcoin, Ethereum ETFs also receive an approval from the SEC. Those ETF did less noise than the Bitcoin ones. While ETH saw a short rally before the announcement, the market wasn't really much impacted by it, following mainly Bitcoin’s trend.

US Regulations (watch)

US regulators are pushing regulations on Crypto. US regulators approved a new regulation FIT21 (Financial Innovation and Technology for the 21st Century Act), US President Joe Biden declared he would not veto it.
The US Senate also passed a resolution to overturn SAB 121 (Staff Accounting Bulletin No. 121) which can still be vetoed by the President.

Both R. Kennedy Jr. and Donald Trump declared their support for Crypto at the libertarian convention. They also talked about the dangers of CBDC.

The hosts share their concerns about the impact of those regulations on non-custodial technologies. They regret regulations but understand the role they play in the current system, enabling a predictable environment. The trio tries to explain how regulations can be beneficial in helping crypto adoption for the larger economy.

Tether: An example of non-crypto product helping crypto adoption (watch)

Tether is a fully centralized token. It is used as a representation of USD in the blockchain industry. Tether has a lot of stories around its legitimacy, however, it is also the biggest enabler of the crypto industry.

Tether covers almost 80% of the overall trading crypto volume. Without Tether, the market would be a lot less liquid. While not a crypto product, and in many ways, a product entirely opposed to the crypto fundamentals, it has a critical role for the crypto industry.

Crypto trading vs. Crypto Technology (watch)

The last few years have seen a major focus on meme coins and other projects less oriented towards the technology achievements and more focused around the speculative aspect. The speculative part of crypto grew beyond the technological promises of the technology, evolving into an even more speculative market completely disconnected from actual future performance besides the price of the asset itself.

This is an expected evolution of the market, with solid projects and pure speculation each following their own path. This however leads to misunderstandings on users supporting real projects, and a spike in scams for those who try to play on the highly speculative assets.

Use Your Crypto ! (watch)

TheVoice approaches the topic of spending vs. holding crypto. While the constant messaging is about holding, it is actually counter productive. For crypto to succeed, it needs to be used everywhere. Rob also shares a personal story about the settlement for a new house made in Bitcoin. Use Your Crypto !

Divi Project Refresh (watch)

Why The Refresh ? (watch)

The hosts share the reasons why they decided to refresh the communication of Divi. After going through what they consider to be the fundamentals of a crypto brand, the different pieces that they considered missing on Divi. The first thing they mention is the lack of communication around Divi’s unique offering

Lightweight: The lightweight nature of the Divi Core , result of the approach taken by our engineer is not common among other blockchains. Most blockchains went the EVM route, requiring much larger hardware to take part. Divi ensures everyone can be a part of the network, preserving Satoshi’s vision of a network run by its users

Staking Vaults vs. DPOS: Staking Vaults offer a unique approach to remote and cold staking. Unlike DPOS, a system in which you completely delegate your coins, including the voting power, to a pool, Divi Staking Vaults are autonomous and do not delegate any power. Another major advantage is that no one has access to your rewards, unlike in a DPOS system where the pool owner can change the fees at any time.

Subscription & Escrow: While it's currently in beta and more targeted towards developers the on-chain subscriptions is unique to Divi. Subscriptions take an ever increasing part of the economy. Divi on-chain subscriptions are the only existing subscription mechanism existing on blockchain, while they are currently not integrated to the wallet, the functionality is available in the Divi core 3.0 for developers to integrate.

Low Fees: EVM blockchains and other similar approaches try to get everything on one chain, with major drawbacks, the biggest being the ever increasing average fees. Divi’s developmental choices ensured this would not become an issue on the Divi blockchain, and the ecosystem expansion through Side Chains will preserve this model.

Lottery: Unique in the industry, Divi’s on-chain lottery makes people dream

Side Chains: The next chapter for the Divi Project. Side Chains open an infinite amount of options for calling the Divi blockchain beyond its UTXO layer

Part of this new communication is being proud of this unique offering and showing it everywhere.

What Has Been Done, What Are The Results ? (watch)

Over the last 7 weeks, major efforts have been made to refresh our online image, particularly on Twitter and Youtube. With a minimum of two tweets and one video segment per day and one long video every two weeks and some regular articles we were able to see very positive results.

We have also seen a change in the Discord channel, with people being more informed about what is coming and less wondering about the future.
These are very encouraging results, however it’s just the beginning of our efforts. These efforts were primarily targeted at the community, the steps will look to reach new people

Paid Marketing (watch)

For an efficient marketing campaign, Divi needed first to have the fundamentals covered. The last step towards this is the Divi website. To prepare for a future vote on the DAO, Rob will publish a few articles about how marketing works behind the scenes in crypto. Rob will go through several components of a successful marketing strategy, how it works on other projects, and how this is all manufactured.

You can find the first article here, make sure you read it to understand more about how these things work and be better prepared for the next vote.
