Divi Updates - Episode #6 Summary

August 5, 2024

Side Chain Liquidity Pool, Regulations and Divi Updates Format

FIT21 Veto, SAB 121 Pending Senate (watch)

US regulators are still moving to regulate crypto. FIT21 was approved in congress and is waiting for a Senate approval. SAB 121, an attempt to repeal the SEC’s special rules for custodians of crypto assets, was vetoed by Joe Biden. While the US president said he wouldn’t veto FIT21, nothing was mentioned about SAB 121.

Despite the importance of financial libertarianism in the crypto industry, regulations are needed for normal actors of the economy to engage with it.

Cosmos Stopped For Nearly 5h! (watch)

Cosmos HUB was stopped for nearly 5h after an update was pushed by the team. The team exposed a bug with the new update and had to submit a patch for a temporary fix in order for the HUB to allow transactions again. This highlights the critical issues of systems with centralized network components.

The team takes the opportunity to remind how Divi Side Chains solve this issue. Being the only solution offering a layer1-to-layer1 direct connection.

Reminder of the importance of full nodes (watch)

In the current time where light wallets, web wallets and centralized services flourish in the crypto industry, it’s important to remember that full nodes - a computer running the blockchain core software, and having a full copy of the ledger - are the core of the blockchain infrastructure. Full nodes are how a decentralized and distributed system operates, they are critical for the operation of the blockchain. Mobile wallets and other centralized solutions rely on full nodes to receive and send info. to the blockchain. If you don’t have a full node, you don’t have full sovereignty: you are relying on a third party for interacting with the blockchain.

Reflection on the Divi Updates format (watch)

Going through feedback on the current format, the team explains the choice of avatars as a model. A solution had to be found to respect the desire for privacy of some members and provide consistent experience with better quality than just the names in a zoom call.

Users shared that this model looks a little less personal, but more unique. If reception keeps being positive, further improvements to the format can be expected.

The feedback received to-date has been overwhelmingly positive.

The hosts also talked about the type of content currently appearing in the Divi Updates. Feedback would be valuable on the kind of content you would like to see in those updates (E.g. in-depth comparisons or analysis of other models, controversial topics, etc.).

Divi Marketing Timing vs. Partner Marketing Timing (watch)

Some important differences are noted for future clarity between Divi’s future Marketing efforts and timings and those of our partner.

A lot of activity has been happening in Divi the past couple of months to make sure we communicate properly the future plans and current capabilities. Those efforts will keep ramping up with the objective to start marketing campaigns once the website is live.
The Side Chains partner however has its own strategy and budget. They are raising funds and their timeline is entirely dependent on this.

We expect to see moves by Q3.

Divi Side Chains Liquidity Pool (DSC Liquidity Pool) Use Case (watch)

At the base of the functionality of a DEX is a Liquidity Pool (LP). A Liquidity Pool on a Side Chain is totally decentralized and fully interoperable, significant differentiating factors with current implementations, relying on multisig smart contracts models. This makes Side Chains a much more secure model.

While Uniswap now uses immutable smart contracts with their v3 model, the boost in interoperability brought by the agnostic nature of Side Chains able to support any blockchain, makes the smart contracts model outdated.

The use of Side Chain for Liquidity Pools permit the pooling to occur permissionless, on-chain; ownership stays with the coin owner until the swap transaction is processed.  An additionall bonus of side chains is that the system design removes the congestion of transactions that often occur with the plethora of tokens that are used in existing DEX platforms.
